A May Day festival for Vallila

The project was co-produced with the Helsinki Culture Foundation (Kulttuurirahasto) to bring a May Day festival to Vallila, Helsinki. The main responsibilities included project management, social media management, and hiring volunteers for the event. In addition, I coordinated the event's media relations. The event received national media coverage in Finland.

No commercial backbone

The main challenge was organizing a festival without commercial sponsorship. The team relied entirely on volunteers and grants from the City of Helsinki. The planning process required hiring volunteers, applying for permits, and coordinating many aspects of the festival. As a result, organizing the festival was a time-consuming process.

Design thinking and clear milestones

I used a design-thinking approach to develop a timeline and schedule for the festival. This included managing social media, recruiting volunteers, and breaking down the permit process into manageable steps. Facebook was used to recruit volunteers for the festival.

Full attendance and national coverage

The festival was a success with full attendance. The event received national media coverage in Finland, including a feature on MTV3's Loppukevennys program.
